FromSoftware has crafted itself a reliable reputation so in the lead up to the release of Elden Ring, I’d say expectations were pretty high. That being said, no one could have predicted the cultural behemoth that Elden Ring was about to become. The title has already entered the US top 10 best-selling games of all-time so it’s no surprise that others want in on the studio’s winning formula - and Sony and Tencent have now made that abundantly clear.
Ever wondered who would win in an Elden Ring boss battle royale? Take a look below.
FromSoftware have officially announced that they’re selling a combined 30% of shares to Sony and Tencent. The news was announced by FromSoftware’s parent company Kadokawa Corporation who will issue the shares to both Sony Interactive Entertainment and Sixjoy Hong Kong, which is a subsidiary of Tencent.

As reported by VGC, this means that Sixjoy will now own 16.25% of FromSoftware whilst Sony will own 14.09%. The remaining shares are all owned by Kadokawa, amounting to 69.66%. Kadokawa hopes that Sony and Tencent’s involvement will allow them to gain extra funding to assist in publishing games globally.
Announcing the news, Kadokawa wrote, “Through the implementation of the fund procurement, FromSoftware will aim to proactively invest in development of more powerful game IP for itself to strengthen FromSoftware’s development capabilities and will seek to establish a framework that allows the expansion of the scope of its own publishing in the significantly growing global market.”
Previously, FromSoftware handed publishing responsibilities for its games to companies like Activision and Bandai Namco, so we could see this done in-house going forwards.
