Sonic Adventure is an all-time great - although its soundtrack doesn’t quite hit the dizzying heights of Sonic Adventure 2. Still, it’s criminal that this game remains relatively unplayable today on many platforms.
Released on the Dreamcast back in 1998, Sonic Adventure was later ported to the GameCube and PC in 2003, before a HD remaster was then released for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 back in 2010. Since then though, Sonic Adventure has largely been neglected … until now. While Sonic Adventure is often considered to be among the best Sonic games of all time, the PS3 and Xbox 360 era version was criticised for its frame rate and general out-of-date feel. Now though, one fan has taken it upon themselves to faithfully recreate the game themselves - and the results are already looking incredible.
We interviewed Sonic The Hedgehog last year ... seriously.
The Sonic Adventure HD project is the work of the team behind the SonicRemasters Twitter account. According to the creators, the mod will aim “to faithfully recreate every single texture in the game in high definition,” while remaining faithful to the original’s style and feel. In a short sample video released by the team, you can see side-by-side comparisons of the original game and the HD project.
The changes are subtle. The grass, stone, and sea textures are far smoother - which is exactly what, as fans, we want. The project very clearly respects the original game instead of trying to make it too ultra HD modern and slick. You can check out the demo for the project now, and fellow fans are excited for the full release.
