Apparently, Sacha Baron Cohen has been cast as a pivotal character in Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with his first appearance arriving in the upcoming Ironheart show on Disney+.
Lizzie Hill, the editor in chief of The Cosmic Circus, took to Twitter to say that she has "some confidence" that Baron Cohen will be playing Mephisto in the TV show centring on the genius engineering student Riri Williams. You'll recall that it was also The Cosmic Circus that shed a little light on the plot of Spider-Man 4 and the team up between Spider-Man and Daredevil in a new "street-level" storyline. Anyway, Hill's response came from a flurry of leaks that claimed the esteemed comedian and character actor would be entering the MCU and the reception to the potential casting has been positive. "He would be a perfect choice! Hope it's for real!" said Twitter user ComicAdv07. "I actually love this cast choice. Mephisto has always IMO been a dork with a lot of power," added another.

Yet, there is an element of eyebrow-raising here. It was widely theorised that Mephisto would show up in WandaVision when there seemed to be an Easter egg for his existence in every episode, but, it was Agatha all along. Additionally, Mephisto is the one who ensures that the world forgets the true identity of Spider-Man in the One More Day storyline in the comics, which was an inspiration for Spider-Man: No Way Home. Given the love that fans have for the demon, they're not eager to be burned again, and that makes sense. We'll have to wait and see whether or not Baron Cohen emerges from a cloud of smoke in Ironheart in due course.
