Adult Swim has distanced itself from Rick and Morty co-creator Justin Roiland following the charges of domestic abuse that came to light earlier this month. This means that he is no longer voicing either of the two titular characters and now the fans are taking their turn to audition as Rick and/or Morty.
Roiland will still be credited as one of the creators of Rick and Morty however Dan Harmon will be the sole showrunner. High on Life developer Squanch Games, which Roiland co-founded seven years ago, confirmed yesterday that the actor has resigned from his role as chief executive officer. And, Hulu and 20th Century Television have issued updates on the status of Solar Opposites and Koala Man, echoing that these two networks will no longer work with Roiland on those shows from now on.
“To be clear, not only is Justin innocent but we also have every expectation that this matter is on course to be dismissed once the district attorney’s office has completed its methodical review of the evidence,” said T. Edward Wellbourn, the actor's attorney, in a statement. Irrespective of this, Adult Swim is proceeding without Roiland's presence in the sci-fi show, announcing that the characters of Rick and Morty will be recast. Fans were ready to provide possible replacements, as well as nominating themselves, and it's an auditory experience. It really is.

Evidently, the fans are not really shooting their shot though I am admittedly on board with the prospect of a total nobody taking on the roles. Rick and Morty is wacky enough so their different voices will be easily explained in the mangled canon of the show.
