Earlier this week, it was announced that Adult Swim had had ended its association with Rick and Morty co-creator Justin Roiland, who is facing allegations of domestic violence.
Roiland was charged with one felony count of domestic battery with corporal injury and one felony count of false imprisonment by menace, violence, fraud and/or deceit back in May 2020. He pleaded not guilty to the charges in October 2020. A protective order was filed against him, which stated that he must not harass, threaten or surveil the individual named within it, and stay 100 feet away from them at all times. Earlier this month (12 January), Roiland appeared in court for a pre-trial hearing.
Roiland not only co-created Rick and Morty, but also voiced the two titular characters. However, Adult Swim is adamant that “Rick and Morty will continue” without him, stating that “the talented and dedicated crew are hard at work on season seven”. Dan Harmon now serves as the only showrunner.

Needless to say, this has left viewers wondering which voice actor(s) will take Roiland’s place - some fans have been putting forward their best impressions in the hopes of bagging a role, while others have joked that Chris Pratt and Tom Holland could be the next in line.
Meanwhile, some believe that the perfect replacements could be none other than the Back to the Future stars, Christopher Lloyd and Michael J. Fox. Over on Twitter, screenwriter Brian Lynch suggested the idea, and others have been totally backing it.
“Seconded,” wrote @JKxZ. “Christopher Lloyd already played Rick once in a mini episode so why not? We could even do something like the original season one concept and make it the adventures of a different Rick and Morty from this point on. There are infinite versions of them,” @gvnzng replied. “Brilliant!” added @TheresaDVdl.
At the time of writing, Adult Swim hasn't confirmed who will be taking the voice roles of Rick and Morty, but has stated that the show will still run for 10 seasons as originally planned.
