There’s no doubt that 2006’s Silent Hill is heaps better than 2012’s Silent Hill: Revelation but on the whole, these adaptations leave a lot to be desired. Silent Hill nailed it when it came to recreating the game’s tone and visuals yet as is often the case with adaptations, the plot lacked refinement.
Despite that, there’s a huge appetite for a third film from fans. Earlier this year, director Christophe Gans confirmed that he’d written a third Silent Hill film during lockdown, noting that the story was unrelated to the previous two instalments. There have also been whispers of a Silent Hill film inspired by Kojima Productions’ P.T. Well, we now know the truth. Konami have finally unveiled Return To Silent Hill.
Check out the brand new trailer for the just-announced remake of Silent Hill 2.
Return to Silent Hill is officially on the way and is set to be a modern retelling of Silent Hill 2. Christophe Gans is returning to the film franchise as writer and director, while Victor Hadida also returns as producer. In a video message, Gans explained that he was fascinated by Silent Hill 2’s examination of “psychological horror,” adding that this would heavily influence his movie, Return To Silent Hill. The director also promised that Pyramid Head would be back along with some new monsters.

The film has been storyboarded but is yet to begin filming so it’s likely we won’t see it released until 2024. When Gans unveiled that he’d written a script earlier this year, he teased that the franchise would evolve to reflect a contemporary understanding of horror. He explained, “I’m trying to take into account what I’ve seen recently, what’s most original and amazing in horror films, and see if Silent Hill has the seeds, or even the expression of that. Silent Hill has always been an unusual game and ahead of its time.”
Konami has also unveiled a remake of Silent Hill 2, which is in the works at Bloober Team, plus a brand new game titled Silent Hill: Ascension. Silent Hill fans are feasting well tonight.
