In recent years, especially with Capcom’s Resident Evil remakes the survival horror genre has never been hotter. However, I’m sure the 90s and early 2000s might have something to say about that.
Before the somewhat recent revival of the survival horror genre, indie developers have been keeping fans entertained in between and beyond. Though I’m glad we seem to be seeing fewer P.T.-inspired first-person horrors nowadays. Speaking of which, Konami, I'm still angry with you for cancelling Hideo Kojima’s Silent Hills. Thankfully, the legendary Japanese developer does have another intriguing horror game in the works coming to Xbox.

One of the other most popular survival horror series’ is Amnesia, which could be argued is at least in some part an inspiration of P.T. Much like the cancelled Konami cult classic, the Amnesia series has sparked an endless amount of similar games and if you understandably roll your eyes at that thought, the topic of today’s discussion might be worth your consideration.

Developed and published by Nyctophile Studios and powered by Unreal Engine 5, the game in question is Death Relives and it’s coming to Steam soon. Death Relives is an upcoming Aztec survival horror that appears to wear the Amnesia inspiration on its sleeve with a hint of the Ethan Winters Resident Evil era.
“Death Relives is a 3D first-person survival horror action exploration game. Players will enter a nightmarish world where survival from long-forgotten gods is the ultimate objective,” reads the description of the game. “Explore real historical places from Aztec mythology as players must utilize unique combat and stealth mechanics to fight against the ancient gods of the Aztecs and send their souls to the Mictlan, the underworld of Aztec mythology.”
No release date has been announced for Death Relives at the time of writing, but it is currently scheduled to be released between now and April this year. Be sure to wishlist Death Relives on Steam to keep updated with its development and availability.
