New Resident Evil 9 rumours have surfaced and it could see two series favourites finally team up for the first time in a video game.
In July this year, following months of rumours, Capcom announced Resident Evil 9 is in development. However, no other details were shared but that news alone was enough to excite the Resident Evil community.

The latest Resident Evil 9 rumours have originated from Andy Cox, a well-known Resident Evil content creator and owner of Biohazard Declassified. This news was then shared by his ROE Network colleagues on the YouTube channel, Residence of Evil.

The leaked information is claimed to have been provided by a playtester of Resident Evil 9 and the upcoming game will star Leon S. Kennedy and Jill Valentine as playable protagonists for the very first time in the video game series.
Previously, Leon and Jill have teamed up in 2023’s Resident Evil: Death Island for the first time but that was an animated movie and not a video game. So if these rumours are true, it’s something that fans have wanted for years.
It’s claimed that Jill will be at least in some part wearing a similar outfit worn in the fantastic Resident Evil 5 DLC, Lost in Nightmares and Leon will look similar to how he did in the animated 2012 movie, Resident Evil: Damnation.
Jill is also said to look as she did in Resident Evil: Death Island while Leon will not be clean-shaven and will have slightly longer hair.

The source says that Resident Evil 9 (currently not its official name) will be set roughly four years after the events of Resident Evil Village with Jill and Leon investigating an island and the location said to be the origin of Eveline, the antagonist of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard.
The island will have forests, abandoned buildings, secret labs and whatnot. You know, the typical survival horror cliches. It will also explore Blue Umbrella, first introduced in RE7, trying to right the wrongs of the original Umbrella.
One of the main enemies is said to be an evolved zombie located on the island and there will be a stalker enemy that targets Leon and a “Goatman” who targets Jill. This might suggest that Leon and Jill will spend much of the campaign separated.
Finally, it’s claimed that Barry Burton and Chris Redfield will return (and maybe Rose Winters) but only as support via radio and its main villain will be an overseer of the island in charge of bioweapon production. Could Albert Wesker still be alive, somehow?

“While yes, we can take it all with a grain of salt there are many things in here that are consistent with previous leaks - with Leon and Jill being the protagonists, the Goatman and an island setting,” said Gizmo16868.
They continued: “The dual protagonist situation sounds interesting. Will it be two separate playthroughs like RE2 or would it be a situation like RE0, where we can shift between two perspectives?”
“If Jill is the main character and they bring like Leon back too, this will be peak fiction,” exclaimed SomethingIntheWayyy0.
“I hope they return to the third-person camera. First-person is cool and all but RE2, RE3 and RE4 are awesome because of the third-person camera,” replied a hopeful anonymousUTguy.

“Yet another sad day for Claire fans,” said a dejected pizzaspaghetti_Uul. I’ll have my fingers crossed that Claire Redfield will one day get her Resident Evil Code: Veronica remake.
As with all rumours, we should take them with a pinch of salt until proven otherwise. That being said, I’ve followed Biohazard Declassified for years as well as Residence of Evil and if there was no trace of creditability, I’d be surprised if they’d put their reputations on the line leaking this information.
Hopefully, Capcom will reveal all the juicy details regarding the next Resident Evil in the coming months.
