Happy Resident Evil 4 remake month to all who celebrate. There’s just over two weeks to go until fans can get stuck into the shiny, modern version of the classic 2005 survival horror game, but if you’ve bought the expensive collector’s edition, you might want to check your pre-order status.
As Kotaku reports, American game store GameStop (the one that everyone on Reddit started buying stocks in a couple of years back) announced earlier this week that all in-store pre-orders of Resident Evil 4’s collector’s edition have been cancelled. Yes, the one that costs $250 and comes with all the cool goodies you could possibly want, including an art book, steelbook, and statue of protagonist Leon S. Kennedy.
Take a look at the trailer for Resident Evil 4 below.
The unfortunate news was first shared by Twitter account @Wario64, and was later corroborated on the r/GameStop subreddit. Reportedly, “customers can move their reservation to another game, use the deposit as credit to purchase something else, or get a refund”, but obviously that’s not what any fan of the series wants to hear.
“Hi GameStop is there a reason my store had to call and tell me that you guys are no longer selling the collector’s edition of Resident Evil 4, something I was willing to pay $250 for have had pre-ordered for months, and now have no way of getting? I am extremely disappointed,” @PEACHVALENTlNE tweeted. “I pre-ordered right away [after] it was announced and now I get a text from my cousin telling me GameStop cancelled our pre-orders! This is bulls**t there is no point in preordering s**t anymore. F**k GameStop I’m never buying from that s**t anymore,” @Boliath91 wrote.

In America, the collector’s edition is a GameStop exclusive, so fans are unable to source the dang thing from anywhere else, and at the time of writing, on the GameStop website, it appears to be sold out on all platforms, so there doesn’t seem to be a way to secure one of them again if your pre-order has been affected. What’s worse, Kotaku reports that some fans who pre-ordered online are now having their collector’s editions cancelled, too - it seems that no one is safe.
