Each day we are getting closer to photorealistic graphics being the standard for video game releases. With technology fast advancing and developers working with programmes such as Unreal Engine 5, it won’t be long before it becomes hard to distinguish real and virtual life.
That is certainly the case for one Red Dead Redemption 2 graphics overhaul which gives us a tease of what we can expect when Rockstar one day gives us Red Dead Redemption 3. The overhaul by Youtuber DubStepZz uses a RTX 3090 Ti i9-12900KS on Ultra Settings to create 4k resolution and 60fps on Red Dead Redemption 2 for PC and the results are stunning.

To show it off, DubStepZz created a short video showcasing the graphics in action and we start with Arthur Morgan strolling through the dimly-lit streets of Saint Denis. As the rain cascades around him, we are treated to water droplets catching the light of nearby street lights and the rays of light themselves reflecting against the puddle-littered cobbles.

Next we see Arthur riding his horse along a sunrise-strewn riverbank and the rays of sunshine filter through the treetops and cast rays upon the landscape in the early-morning mist. Arthur then rides his horse across a series of backdrops including flat plains with looming dark clouds and mountains that look down into the detailed valleys below.
Last but not least, we get a sneak peek at how the graphics overhaul has affected indoor settings as we see Arthur mill around the saloon. The only light is from the lamps dotted on tables and shining onto patron’s faces as they go about their evening.
Overall, the changes are startling and really give us just an idea of what we can expect from Red Dead Redemption 3. Let’s just hope Rockstar has some plans up its sleeves.
