Five years later and Red Dead Redemption 2 players are still uncovering new mysteries about the game.
Rockstar Games are well-known for their attention to detail in games, with Red Dead Redemption 2 arguably being its crowning achievement for open-world secrets and features, so much so that many praise the game for having the greatest open-world ever made.

Recently, a player was out exploring the game’s tremendous scenery, and discovered an unsettling sight in the distance, which they promptly shared in a Reddit thread.

Posted by ghost_toe the thread read “More than once, I've noticed an NPC watching me from a distance, wave his hand and leave” accompanied by a video. In the video, an unknown man on a horse can be seen on a hill, watching the player before making a slow exit.
Who is it and why they’re there remains a mystery, though many players are offering their own theories as to who it could be.
“This guy was just enjoying the view; then he noticed you looking at him with binocs, awkwardly waved, and left because he was weirded out.”

“I think it often leads to an ambush, but it’s nice to know some are just friendly”
“I'm very surprised no one has pointed this out but that person looks like Micah. The horse looks like Baylock”
It’s highly likely that it’s just another NPC roaming the open-world, but given how it’s a Rockstar game, there could definitely be a more sinister or supernatural angle to the mysterious stranger. The first Red Dead Redemption had its fair share of odd occurrences, like several meetings with The Strange Man, a man dressed in black who many believe to be God/The Devil/Death depending on the theorist.
Regardless of who it is, it’s incredible that Red Dead Redemption 2 is still full of secrets and surprises to uncover so many years after its release. It also makes it even more frustrating that there’s been no single player content to expand the story or world, despite several pleas and petitions from fans to make it happen.
