Red Dead Redemption 2 gets unexpected GTA 5 crossover

Red Dead Redemption 2 fans love the game too much to let it die – not only did a player recently hogtie an entire town for laughs, but now modders are giving us the RD2 and GTA 5 crossover we’ve all dreamt of.

For fans of both Rockstar Games, the ‘Rockstar Protagonists - Red Harlow - Niko Bellic - Trevor Philips and more’ mod will help you transform some of those boring RD2 NPCs into the infamous characters of GTA 5.

The modder that’s blessed the fandom with such a generous creation is thegoodmerchant, and is no stranger to providing the types of mods we all enjoy, bestowing us with ponchos for every member of the Van Der Linde gang. Arguably, this crossover is some of their best work yet. Not only can the likes of Trevor Philips grace the dusty roads of Guarma, but he can also change outfits, just in case you didn’t find the experience immersive enough already.

But how does thegoodmerchant explain these recognisable faces appearing in a game set in the past, seemingly from another Rockstar Games universe? Easy: “Think of them as the great, great grandpas of the protagonists you know and love.”

Despite giving players so much already, there’s one more gem included that really puts this RD2 mod on the map – it includes the main protagonist from Red Dead Revolver. Thegoodmerchant can’t take all the credit for this though, as ‘Red Harlow’ comes from KristenD3.

There’s a lot going on here, so it’s understandable that fans of the two titles want to get stuck in. However, for that to happen you first need to install several other mods, including ScriptHookRDR2 V2, ‘Lenny’s Mod Loader RDR’, Online Content Unlocker, and Rampage Trainer (though I haven’t tested them for myself).

This is clearly a mod for the dedicated, but if you think you’ve got the gumption to handle two sets of legends in one game, I tip my hat to you. Let’s just hope RD2 being unplayable isn’t an issue for much longer.
