Red Dead Redemption 2's 'official' canon ending is good enough for us

Red Dead Redemption 2's 'official' canon ending is good enough for us

Definitely the right ending

Arthur Morgan’s actor Roger Clark has given his take on the true canon ending to Red Dead Redemption 2.

Even over five years after its launch, Red Dead Redemption 2 is hailed as the gold standard when it comes to video game storytelling, and if you still haven’t played it yet, you’ve got time to get a playthrough or two in before GTA VI comes out.

Speaking of GTA VI, here’s the trailer for Rockstar’s next open-world title below.

While there’s a lot to love about the latest Red Dead’s story, it’s Chapter 6 that’s often praised the most due to the choice it bestows upon the player for how they’d like to end the game.

I’ll try to keep it spoiler-free but the game has been out for half a decade, you’re probably spoiled already at this point.

At the end of the game, Arthur is given the choice of going after a huge stockpile of cash to set himself up for life, or the more honourable choice of rescuing his dear friend John Marston.

The latter option is often considered the best ending, though some would argue picking the money is just as good as it gives you a “boss fight” with Micah and Dutch, and if you’ve played the game, you know how satisfying it is to beat them up after all they’ve done.

Roger Clark, the actor for Arthur Morgan, is a fan of the honourable ending though, as he stated during a recent Q&A on the Gameology YouTube channel.

Clark believes “going back to help John with high honour is to me the canon ending,” and we’re inclined to agree with him.

It’s a shame we’ll probably never see Arthur in another Red Dead Redemption game, though Rockstar Games does have the option of bringing him back if it goes for a prequel again.
