Rockstar Games’ stellar Red Dead Redemption 2 has just passed another major sales milestone, becoming the seventh best-selling video game of all time.
All these years on and Red Dead Redemption 2 is still delighting fans both old and new. It’s no secret that it features one of the most exquisitely detailed open worlds that we’ve ever come across. With that in mind, it’s no wonder that some players are still stumbling across impressive hidden details almost six years on. If you’re a PC player, you can boost your experience with some fantastic mods, including one that massively expands the map granting you access to out of bounds areas. What we’re all truly after though is Red Dead Redemption 3. Well, looking at these sales figures, it’s got to be a possibility that Rockstar Games is considering.

During yesterday’s Take-Two earnings call, it was revealed that Red Dead Redemption 2 has now shifted over 61 million copies worldwide since launch. It sits behind Mario Kart 8 / Deluxe with just over 69 million sales, while PUBG: Battlegrounds occupies fifth with 75 million sales. Fourth place is taken by Wii Sports with over 82 million sales. EA’s Tetris then has 100 million, followed by Grand Theft Auto V with 195 million, and Minecraft with 300 million.

Travelling in descending order to round out the top 10, eighth place is taken by Super Mario Bros with 58 million sales, Overwatch, Human: Fall Flat, and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt then sit in joint ninth with 50 million sales, with 1989’s Tetris sitting in tenth with 48 million units shifted.
It’ll be interesting to see what happens to this list following the launch of GTA VI next year. In terms of recent additions, 2022’s Pokémon Scarlet and Violet made it onto the top best-sellers with just over 24 million copies sold, as did 2023’s Hogwarts Legacy. I think we’ll see the latter climb a bit higher as the months go on, particularly if new updates and DLC are on the way.
