Director Zack Snyder has shared the first teaser for his upcoming Star Wars inspired movie Rebel Moon, which is set to air exclusively on Netflix.
The Justice League director originally pitched the movie as a standalone Star Wars adventure several years ago, but the idea was ultimately scrapped when Disney acquired Lucasfilm. However, the project has found new life as an entirely original sci-fi story set in its own universe. Because, and I cannot stress this enough, not everything needs to be Star Wars.
Snyder celebrated the first day of filming on the movie late last month with a brief teaser. As you can see below, Djimon Hounsou's character General Titus looks the absolute business in a moody black-and-white shot.
While I'm not personally a huge fan of Snyder's movies, Rebel Moon does sound super interesting. The movie focuses on a colony living in peace out on the galaxy edge, but is ultimately thrust into conflict when it's discovered by tyrannical ruler by the name of Balisarius.

In an effort to take Balisarius down, the colony sends a young woman with a mysterious past to neighboring planets to form an alliance and make a desperate last stand. Star Wars plus Akira Kurosawa with shades of 300? That's a movie I can get on board with.
Snyder is director and producer on Rebel Moon. He's also co-writing the script with Army of the Dead's Shay Hatten and 300's Kurt Johnson. Much like Army Of The Dead, which already has multiple spinoffs and sequels in development, Snyder wants to build an entire franchise out of Rebel Moon. We'll have to wait and see if he succeeds.
