Dear reader, I’m so sorry in advance for the words you’re about to be subjected to. It’s safe to say that this year has already had some massive gaming announcements, from the many big studio acquisitions, to the cancellation of 2022’s in-person and online E3 events (sad times). I can’t say that the news I’m about to tell you can even begin to compete with half of that when it comes to its importance or hype, but it’s quite easily the weirdest.
It’s just been revealed that PUBG Mobile is launching a collab with Baby Shark, of all things. Yes, that annoying song for kids that’ll worm its way into your brain and stay there for weeks on end, even with the shortest listen of the chorus. Why? I’m as confused as you.
Take a look at the absolutely cursed PUBG x Baby Shark crossover video below, if you dare.
Unfortunately, the collaboration doesn’t end with the video, either. Starting today, until 2 June, players can also get a load of exclusive Baby Shark themed items, including a motorcycle, smoke grenade, helmet and parachute. Now, PUBG might not be the most violent game in the world, but it’s still rated T (or PEGI 16+ in the UK), which really makes you wonder who exactly the audience of this crossover is supposed to be, given that Baby Shark is aimed at literal toddlers.

Clearly there’s someone interested in it, though, as this actually isn’t the first time that the two have collaborated: “We’re thrilled to be working with Pinkfong Baby Shark again, bringing colourful items and music to PUBG Mobile,” said Vincent Wang, head of PUBG Mobile publishing at Tencent Games. “We can’t wait to see our players exploring Erangel in their new Baby Shark gear, and we hope that our new song will bring joy to everyone in the PUBG Mobile and Baby Shark communities!”
“We are delighted to expand our collaboration with PUBG Mobile, offering our fans another unparalleled entertaining experience,” said Ryan Seungkyu Lee, executive vice president at The Pinkfong Company (the guys who made Baby Shark). “Collaboration with one of the world’s most popular mobile games builds on our commitment to making the world more joyful through content for people of all ages. We will continue to seek opportunities where we can bring joy to our fans around the world.”
An “unparalleled entertaining experience”, huh? Right. I take no responsibility if that song gets stuck in your head, by the way.
