Not only has there been a noticeable lack of Silent Hill games released in the last decade, there’s also been no new movies. Over the years, we’ve had a couple of Silent Hill appearances on the big screen - the first in 2006, followed by Silent Hill: Revelation (based on Silent Hill 3) in 2012.
Take a look at P.T. - the playable teaser for the cancelled title Silent Hills - below.
However, the director of Silent Hill (2006), Christophe Gans, has been expressing interest in making a new film for some time now. Back in June, he even confirmed that a script for a third movie has been written (although it doesn’t seem to have been given the green light yet).

“I’m working on it now. There were the Covid-19 years which finally forced us to stay home. I took the opportunity to write two scripts, [including] the script for a new Silent Hill movie that is totally independent from the two previous movies made and respects the way Silent Hill has evolved,” he told Jeux Video (translated by VGC).
Now though, in an interview with EcranLarge (and spotted by ResetEra user Darkknight2149), it sounds like progress on the film has moved even further forward. What’s more, the planned movie takes inspiration from P.T. - the playable teaser for the cancelled game, Silent Hills.
“I have practically finished the storyboards for this new Silent Hill and there are indeed a few nods to P.T. because, obviously, it made us all dream,” he said (translated by Google).
The movie hasn’t been officially announced just yet, but Gans previously suggested that it could release in 2023, so we’ll have to watch this space for news.
