Pokémon Gold/Silver fans in love with new 25th anniversary surprise

Ho-Oh-pefully you manage to get your hands on one

Oof, this one has really made me feel my age. As of today, Pokémon Gold and Pokémon Silver are 25 years old, following both games' November 21, 1999 release in Japan.

To celebrate their birthdays, The Pokémon Company has been rolling out a bunch of incredible-looking Gold and Silver themed merch.

The PokéJungle Game & Merch News Twitter account revealed a picture of all of the goodies that are on offer, such as Lugia and Ho-Oh jackets, mugs that feature in-game artwork of Entei, Raikou, and Suicune, and some “small plates” with Umbreon and Espeon on them.

Those “small” plates would only fit a “minuscule” UK portion size on them, which might be one of the reasons why you can’t currently grab any of these items outside of Japan.

Well, all except for two of them - and thankfully, they’re probably the two you wanted to grab the most.

If you hop on over to the official Pokémon Center website, you can make yourself the proud owner of either a Ho-Oh or a Lugia plushie.

Or, hey, get both. Bet you were that kid at school who bought two Gameboys so you could trade Pokémon to yourself.

If you do like the look of the plushies, you may want to act fast as it sounds like they’ll only be available for a limited time.

If you fancied grabbing the rest of the merch, then don’t fret. The Pokémon Company does have a tendency to release some Japan-exclusive stuff to the rest of the world eventually, so keep an eye on the Pokémon Center for any further updates down the line.

Over on a post from the official Twitter account, where it was announced that the plushies were going up for sale, fans in the comments seem thoroughly chuffed to be able to get their hands on the new merch.

“the ho oh plush straight up looks like its shiny... " commented user @YoYoRobbed, "these plushies rule".

"Just ordered both of mine" replied user @mew_151_421, "can’t wait till they arrive".

Personally, if I was gonna grab one for myself, I’d get the Lugia one. But hey, that’s just because I only owned Silver version as a kid… which was somehow already 25 years ago…

I’m gonna go take a multivitamin and complain about my back hurting.
