Pokémon's 1000th monster is a farce. That's it, that's the story. Reactions to the monster have been severely scathing and once you see the creature, you'll know just what those fans mean.
Pokémon had a time of it in the latter half of 2022. Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, inspired by southwestern Europe, showed some promise as an open-world adventure that would have learned from the lessons of Legends Arceus. That prequel title met with a warm welcome - in our review, we couldn't praise the enchanting Hisui region and the innovative twists on the standard series formula.
On the other hand, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet were a skittering shambling mess. Obviously, things are a lot better now thanks to updates, but sadly history will often only remember the state of the game at launch. Scarlet and Violet find themselves in good company with Assassin's Creed Unity, Dishonored 2 and WWE 2K20.

To cleanse the story before we see the 1000th Pokémon, take a look at how cute these perfectly round Pokémon can be:
So, introduced in Scarlet and Violet, Pokémon's 1000th monster is the steel/ghost-type Gholdengo. It evolves from Gimmighoul once the player collects the 1000 Gimmighoul coins in the region of Paldea. And it looks like an Olympic mascot bought off of Wish.
Might I just add that, though its Japanese name uses the word "surf," its Pokédex image shows it surfing and it can create a surfboard to cross water, Gholdengo is incapable of learning the move Surf. How has it somehow gotten worse. "It's a bloody cheese string," said @Dashie41. "This thing being the 1000th [Pokémon] is the same vibe as what [you get] for collecting all the Korok seeds," sniped @lunestival.

"I'm actually really disappointed that dex entry 1000 is just a mon filled with coins. Like no other colour scheme and the design looks bland [as f*ck]," argued @SaltedEggBanz. They're right and they should say it.
