'The Last Of Us Part 2' Has Been Delayed Again

You already know why.

In news that I think a lot of us were probably expecting, The Last Of Us Part 2 has sadly been delayed again. Naughty Dog's post-apocalyptic sequel has now been pushed back from its intended May 29th release date, and will not launch "until further notice".

The studio has stressed that The Last Of Us Part is finished and ready to go... but current global events are such that releasing the game around the world so that everybody can experience it at the same time is currently a logistical impossibility. Sony explained in a statement that "the global crisis is preventing us from providing the launch experience our players deserve".

Meanwhile, you can see Naughty Dog's own statement on the delay below. However upset you are about this news, the staff who've worked so hard on Joel and Ellie's next adventure are clearly gutted. Spare a thought for them.

"We were faced with the reality that due to logistics beyond our control, we couldn't launch The Last of Us Part II to our satisfaction," Naughty Dog said. "We want to make sure everyone gets to play The Last of Us Part II around the same time, ensuring that we're doing everything possible to preserve the best experience for everyone. This meant delaying the game until such a time where we can solve these logistic issues."

"We're hoping that this won't be a long delay and we'll update you as soon as we have new information to share."

The current global crisis has already had an impact on a few other major releases so far this year. Square Enix announced earlier in the week that it would shipping copies of Final Fantasy VII Remake early in order to make sure players could get their hands on the game in time for the April 10th release date.

Elsewhere, Capcom warned that physical orders for Resident Evil 3 (which is out today) could be delayed in some countries. Several analysts have also suggested that the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X might not launch as intended later this year, although Microsoft has reiterated its intention to push ahead with its "holiday 2020" release window for the next-gen console.

Clearly we're living in an extraordinary, unprecedented time. Game delays are super disappointing, of course, but if this is the worst thing that's happened to you since this whole mess started? Consider yourself pretty lucky.
