Despite multiple setbacks, Microsoft are continuing on in their attempt to acquire Activision. For months, Microsoft has been bickering with regulators and companies across the world about the deal - most significantly, with regards to the future exclusivity of Call of Duty.
Initially, Microsoft said that making CoD an Xbox-exclusive “wouldn’t be profitable,” but then confessed it’s something they’d think about in “several years.” Reports then suggest that PlayStation turned down a three-year access deal. With the Federal Trade Commision now filing a suit against the $69 billion acquisition, Microsoft have supposedly extended that to a 10-year deal. Either way, PlayStation isn’t happy and a new rumour claims that they may be planning an acquisition of their own to level the playing field.
Who’s excited for the upcoming PS5-exclusive Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores? I can’t wait. Take a look at the trailer below.
As reported by GGRecon, PlayStation are reportedly eyeing Take-Two Interactive which would be major. Industry analyst LumberjackRy tweeted, “Have it on extremely good word that if Microsoft acquires Activision Blizzard, Sony is going after Take-Two Interactive to counter it. Three of my trusted and almost always correct sources confirmed that to me.” Oh my. Oh my indeed.

If the possible ramifications haven’t yet clicked, allow me to explain. Take-Two Interactive owns Rockstar Games which means, yes, if the deal went ahead, both the Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption franchises could end up becoming PlayStation-exclusives. Yeah .. oh my. The good news is that GTA VI is likely to be too close to release to be affected. We’re talking about a deal that could be years in the making.
It’s important to remember that this is all a rumour for now. Still, it’s one that could truly change the industry in the coming years if it proves to be true. In addition to owning Rockstar, Take-Two Interactive also owns 2K Games and Private Division.
