The PlayStation 5 may be a nightmare to get your hands on, but the hefty lad is a pretty wonderful thing. As you grow more accustomed to your PS5, it’s quite natural that you’ll acquire a few accessories.
I can safely say that the PlayStation 5 DualSense charging station changed my life. Gone are the days of having to plug the controller in whilst I sit uncomfortably close to my TV. Another hugely popular accessory of choice is gaming headsets, which allow you to experience the PS5’s 3D audio in addition to chatting with your chums online.

Whether you’ve opted for Sony’s PULSE 3D wireless headset or a third-party brand, a number of headset users have all been reporting the same problem: poor audio quality. A bunch of these headsets do not come cheap, so you may be bemoaning your disappointing (and expensive) purchase but it turns out, there may be a very simple fix.

YouTuber John Glasscock has pointed out why you may be experiencing poor audio quality. It’s actually due to the fact that the USB dongle that connects your wireless headphones to your console may be overheating. As John points out, most users place the dongle in one of the rear USB slots of the PS5 to keep it out of the way, but these USB slots are actually flanked by the PS5s external air vents.
This means that while you’re gaming, the warm air vented out of your console is actually causing the headset dongle to overheat. This will lead to breakups in audio quality, so the solution is simple. Use the front-facing USB slot.
John said, “I recommend you make sure your PlayStation 5 has sufficient ventilation at all times, and consider moving your dongle to the front-facing USB port for not only less heat but also potentially better wireless range.” Noted. Be right back, gonna go save my headset from a scorching death.
