There’s no doubt at all that Elden Ring is ridiculously popular at the minute. As of the start of this week, the game has sold 12 million units worldwide, which is absolutely wild when you consider that it’s been out for under three weeks.
Obviously, a lot of copies means a lot of players, and when they’re not breaking their controllers in frustration after being repeatedly destroyed by a particularly tricky boss, it seems that people have been having far too much fun with the message system. In theory, it exists for players to help each other out - place warnings, drop little hints, that sort of thing. But of course, that’s generally not what it’s been used for at all - the Lands Between have been littered with all sorts of absolutely ridiculous phrases, from the legendary “try fingers but hole” to so, so much more.
Check out some of the funniest messages in Elden Ring below.
In case you weren’t aware, the messages can only be composed of pre-made words and phrases, presumably to avoid too much silliness and profanity, which is why so many of them make so little sense. It definitely adds to the funny factor though.

In other Elden Ring news, the speedrunning community is already producing some unbelievably fast times when it comes to the Any% runs of the game. One particular player, Distortion2, is on a roll when it comes to setting and then immediately breaking his own world records - earlier this week, he became the first person to complete a run under 30 minutes, and since then, he’s managed to shave that time down even more. My mind is blown.
Unfortunately though, the whole game may have just got even harder for new players, as FromSoftware have released their first major patch, and while it boasts a whole load of helpful changes, such as keeping track of NPCs on the map, it’s also nerfed what’s widely considered to be the best weapon in the game. No fun allowed.
