Xbox system update quietly adds new setting you'll want to use immediately

Some users think they've already spotted an issue with the update however

Microsoft is dropping a handy new system update for Xbox users that aims to give players more storage space, although some don’t seem entirely happy with what’s on offer.

The update notes for the Xbox Insiders Update Preview are finally here, and it sounds like this new upcoming feature is going to make clearing out your hard drives much, much easier.

"With today's update, we're introducing a new and improved way to free up some much-needed storage space when you're running low,” Microsoft revealed in the 2504.250312-2200 release notes.

“Rather than simply displaying leftover add-ons and shrinkable games, we will now also include recommendations like removing duplicate copies or games you no longer have access to. Check it out by heading to My Games & Apps > Manage > Free up space."

Most of the commenters over on a post detailing the news in the r/xbox subreddit seem pretty happy with the change.

"I'm looking forward to this one as I often forget to delete GamePass games after they leave the service," commented user VolitarPrime.

"Good," replied user Black_RL, "sometimes I have dupes and I don’t know."

However, one user has already tried the update out for themselves (as they’re assumedly an Xbox Insider member) and they don’t seem particularly impressed.

“Honestly not a fan of the change,” commented user darkdeath174, “It removes the ability for you to see what games have leftover dlc still installed and games that had their size shrunk and can be updated to that.”

“Now it’s just a list of all your games installed, as they just took the “hey you are low storage and need to delete a game to install” page that would show you this stuff and popped into there.”

No word on exactly when the update will be landing on Xbox Series S/X or Xbox One, but hopefully they can iron out these issues before then.
