Xbox's next-gen console has the perfect launch game lined up, fans agree

But does that mean this massively hyped title won't make it to current-gen systems?

Now that news of a next-gen Xbox in 2027 has leaked, fans are pretty certain they know exactly which game is going to be one of its launch titles - and their reasoning does make a lot of sense.

In case you missed it, Windows Central’s Jez Corden recently leaked some details regarding a new Xbox successor that’s set to launch in 2027.

“For now, I understand that Microsoft's next-gen hardware plans include a premium successor to the powerful Xbox Series X,” Corden revealed, “alongside its own Xbox gaming handheld, and several new controller options. Tentatively, these new console devices are slated for 2027.”

So, what big, system-selling game could Microsoft possibly have lined up in the chamber for the launch of a new Xbox? Well, The Elder Scrolls VI does seem like a good bet.

Over in a thread on the r/TESVI subreddit, fans of Bethesda’s upcoming game discussed how they’d feel about it being exclusive to the next-gen Xbox at launch.

Do you remember that 2018 reveal trailer?

“Good news to me, honestly,” commented user NazRubio.

“I don't think the Series S was as much of a drag as some say, but it would be awful if a 2027/28 title was dragged down by eight year old hardware that was weak at launch.”

“My theory has been for a while that they were working towards a 2026 release date, but if it's true that the new Xbox is coming in 2027, that makes a lot more sense,” replied user buhurizadefanboyu.

“As you said, it just lines up too well not to be true. We already know their internal target was three years after Starfield. New-gen in 2027 gives them a few more months on top of that which they'd likely welcome.”

I do get the logic here. Xbox owns Bethesda, and The Elder Scrolls VI is probably the second most hyped game in existence right now (just behind GTA VI).

However, I think there’s one thing they’re forgetting here; there’s nothing stopping Microsoft from double-dipping and releasing it on the Xbox Series X/S just before their next Xbox launches.

Maybe the Xbox Series S wouldn’t be powerful enough to handle The Elder Scrolls VI, but they’d massively benefit from giving players the option to buy the game twice.
