Xbox gamers just realising there’s a hidden setting for immediate graphical improvement

Your TV could be holding you back

I’ll admit, when I load up my consoles, I tend to jump straight into playing my current game.

I may browse the respective console’s store, but I certainly don’t spend much time dilly dallying around in the settings.

Perhaps I should though, because there are so many handy little features in there that the vast majority of us aren’t taking advantage of.

In fact, one Xbox Series X user previously shared an interesting tidbit that’ll appeal to those of you seeking a graphics boost which I assume also works on Series S consoles.

The tip comes from Reddit user jeebusjunior who, in this instance, was playing Wild Hearts.

“I've been really struggling with the graphic fidelity. The visuals seemed extremely muddy, indistinct and mushed together, to a point where I'd see the 'gather' text prompt before I visually realised there was something there to gather,” they wrote.

“I suspected HDR but tweaking the settings or disabling it in game made little difference. I decided to disable HDR support in the Xbox settings and it made a world of difference,” they added, recommending that fellow users try the same.

Avowed recently landed on Xbox, and it's a banger.

To provide some context, adjusting HDR will not affect your frame rate or resolution.

Instead, it’ll affect the contrast which can, in some cases, make the graphics appear a tad more pleasing on the eye.

It’s not a life-changing adjustment, but it may provide a subtle boost for those who feel they need it.

If you’re running your console through an older TV, this trick will perhaps work more wonders for you than those with 4K OLED monitors.

It could be that your TV isn’t powerful enough to support the output having HDR enabled demands, hence the boost from turning it off.

With all of this in mind, it’s definitely worth having a play around with the setting to see what’s best for your unique situation.

To find the setting, navigate to ‘General’, followed by ‘TV & Display Options’, and then ‘Video Modes’.
