Xbox drops free download for massive RPG, no Game Pass needed

An absolute banger

Xbox players have an exciting new freebie they can enjoy right now, one of 2023’s biggest AAA bangers.

You can claim this one on the Xbox Store for consoles only; PC players can’t access it, unfortunately.

It’s none other than a demo for Final Fantasy XVI, one of the best games to come out of 2023 and previously a PlayStation 5 exclusive.

Final Fantasy fans have been waiting for more of the games to be available on Xbox consoles, especially Final Fantasy VII Remake which is only just getting a port after all of these years. If that’s the case, God knows how long we’ll be waiting for a port of Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth…

Anyway, Final Fantasy XVI hasn’t taken as long, and if you haven’t given it a go yet, you’re missing out.

The story follows new protagonist Clive Rosfield, played by Ben Starr, on a new adventure to save yet another collapsing kingdom from ruin. This time, however, there’s more flashy combat as opposed to the turn-based gameplay fans of the series will know and love.

You can give the demo a go now for free and any progress you make will be transferred over to the full game, much like it was on the PlayStation version before the game came out.

What’s more is once you’ve beaten the demo, you probably won’t want to play it for a second time, so instead you can play the new Eikonic Challenge mode, which has apparently been created especially for the demo.

All in all, it should give you a good idea of what to expect if you do decide to dive into the full game, and it’s well-worth it too as it’s one of the best Final Fantasy games to date.

Grab it from the Xbox Store now.
