After a wave of hate from fans, Starfield defied all odds and became September’s top-selling game in the US, despite it being part of Xbox Game Pass.
Bethesda’s newest IP Starfield is without a doubt the biggest Xbox game of the year, so it only makes sense that it’d top the charts when it released last month.

According to last month's sales, Starfield was the most popular game across Xbox and PC platforms in the US, narrowly fending off Mortal Kombat 1 for the top spot. It’s important to mention that this is for actual sales of the game too, and doesn’t factor in its place on Xbox Game Pass.

If you added in all the downloads from Xbox’s subscription service, the number would probably skyrocket to enormous heights. Not too long ago, it was revealed Starfield had garnered over 10 million players, which will have likely gone up as more people try out the game.
While it’s unsurprising that such an enormous new IP would generate a lot of buzz amongst consumers, the game has received its fair share of complaints and criticism from fans.
The main critique was in its open world, which was a major selling point in the marketing and build-up to its release. Starfield features over 1,000 planets to explore, and some gamers have landed on every single one of them.
While there are plenty of worlds to choose from, with some possibly being references to prior Bethesda games like Skyrim, fans were disappointed that only around 10% of them were actually worth visiting, with the rest being barren wastelands.

Ship travel was also criticised, with many saying it was boring outside of viewing your latest ship creations, as it’s as simplistic as fast travelling from planet to planet and occasionally fighting enemy starships.
Regardless, Starfield is, and should be, considered a monumental success for Bethesda, and it’s not even finished yet as DLC expansions are planned for sometime next year.
