Halo 3: ODST has been named the best Halo game ever made, causing quite a stir amongst the fanbase.
Halo is a very broad series, with each game feeling very different to the one before it, despite sticking to the same overall formula.

It’s for this reason that there are so many differing opinions when it comes to deciding which game is the best overall. Some would argue it’s Halo: Reach for the story, others would say it’s Halo: Combat Evolved for kicking off the series, and others might say Halo 5, but we don’t listen to those people.

That being said, a title you don’t often see get thrown into the ring is Halo 3: ODST, the spin-off that strips you of your Mjölnir armour and throws you into a city infested with Covenant as a (somewhat) normal soldier.
It’s fondly remembered as being a solid Halo game, with the most praise going to the sweet, sweet jazz that floods your ears as you explore the city of New Mombasa. Recently, the title kicked off a major discussion, due to being brought up in a Reddit post.
Reddit user mentyio created a post and asked gamers: “What are some Games that were supposed to be dlc but released standalone that outshone the ‘main game’. For me it’s Halo 3: ODST. And it’s still my favourite Halo game”
While mentyio received some pushback for their opinion, many shared their belief and praised the spin-offs atmosphere and story.

“ODST is definitely better than 3. It has a better story, better characters. Nothing is as neutered by bad writing as 3 was.”
“For me it did yeah. 3 was awesome but odst was another level”
“Halo 3 probably has the two best Halo Campaign levels of all time with The Ark and The Covenant. But other than those two levels, the overall story is way stronger in both ODST and Halo 2 in my opinion.”
Some Halo fans didn’t see things the same way, believing Halo: Reach was much better in comparison, and some stated while ODST was an incredible game, it didn’t outshine Halo 3, which capped off the trilogy and is still considered to be one of the greatest Xbox exclusives of all time.

Other games/expansions thrown into the mix were Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare, The Witcher 3’s Hearts of Stone/Blood and Wine expansions, and Spider-Man: Miles Morales to name a few.
Of course, the best of anything is always down to opinion, but whether you loved it or hated it, you can’t deny Halo 3: ODST had style.
