One of Steam’s latest freebies is a slightly bizarre combination of The Elder Scrolls and Minecraft, definitely one for RPG fans.
Christmas is approaching fast, meaning it’s the time of year where generosity and thanksgiving are abundant, with Steam leading the charge with several free titles to add to your library over the festive period.
Check out GAMINGbible's Game Of The Year list below!
One such title is an RPG with the story-driven quests of The Elder Scrolls or Baldur’s Gate 3, with the survival building and crafting of Minecraft or Valheim.

Titled Reign of Guilds, the game’s description reads: “Reign of Guilds is a classic MMORPG. Dark magical middle ages: open world, castle sieges, economy and diplomacy, merchant and craft associations, church and mercenaries, counts and of course the King. Choose your side.”
Admittedly, that description is a bit vague so allow me to go into slightly more detail. Much like Bethesda’s classic RPG series, your goal is to wander the open world, chat up the locals and fight whatever men or monsters get in your way. Some encounters can be resolved with words if you’re more of a pacifist, so it’s really upto you what kind of name you make for yourself in the game.
Now, at the time of writing, the game isn’t available yet. Reign Of Guilds is scheduled for release next year, though playtests will launch in the next few days. This will give you free access to the title before its release, as well as the opportunity to provide feedback to the developers on what works, what doesn’t and any bugs/glitches you find along the way.
Once the game fully releases, you’ll need to pay to play it so the playtest is a good opportunity to give the game a try and see if it’s for you.
