What a year 2023 is turning out to be for gaming. This month in particular has been absolutely stacked. Between Starfield, Baldur’s Gate 3, The Crew Motorfest, Mortal Kombat 1, Lies of P Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, and EA Sports FC 24, I think it’s fair to say that all our backlogs are growing at an exponential rate.
That doesn’t look set to end anytime soon though, as October is equally packed with what we hope are going to be bangers. The big headliner is clearly Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, but we’ve also got Assassin’s Creed Mirage, Detective Pikachu Returns, Lords of the Fallen, Sonic Superstars, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria, and Alan Wake 2 on the way. As if that wasn’t enough, today I bring you a free treat. Yes, your backlog may be full to the brim but you’re surely not going to turn down a free critically acclaimed horror as we enter spooky season? Steam users can currently grab The Dark Pictures Anthology: Man of Medan.
Speaking of Marvel's Spider-Man 2, take a look at our preview below.
Released in 2019, Man of Medan is quintessential Supermassive Games. It’s an interactive horror, so how the game unfolds very much depends on the decisions you make and how well you execute QTEs. You have five protagonists to keep alive until the credits roll. Think you can manage it? Man of Medan centres around four college students who embark on a diving trip aboard the Duke of Milan boat, as they search for the remains of a WWII plane.

The group soon encounter modern-day pirates who send the students looking for ‘Manchurian Gold’. What they actually find is a ghost ship, seemingly haunted by phantom creatures … I bet that’s piqued your interest.
