PC gamers are known to plunder the Steam sales when they roll around, and there’s a perpetual joke about how much we spend on games only to never play them.
No matter what sale it is, there’s usually something to buy on Steam for a ridiculously low price, but those totals soon add up.
Is the cost of my Steam Deck added into this total?
You may, or may not, be happy to hear that there is a way of finding out just how much you’ve spent on games over the years.

You could head on over to Steamdb, where the website will handily estimate how much you’ve spent, or you could burrow through Steam menus to find out the real figure.
I checked mine, and I wish to God that I hadn’t.
After realising I’ve spent around £8000 on games, the majority of which I’ve probably never even opened, I realise now why I don’t own any property.
I buy all these lovely games and then end up playing more of The Binding of Isaac instead.

If you want to disappoint yourself, then open up Steam and navigate the following menus:
Start off in Help, then move through Steam support > My account > Data related to your Steam account > External funds used.
Now you know how much you’ve spent. All those cheeky games you nabbed in the sale, or big blockbusters you snagged and fell in love with, soon added up.
Was it money well spent?

Let’s put it this way, when I retire and have no money to live off because I spent it all on games, at least I’ll have a decent backlog to work through, in between games of Bingo in the care home.
And I’d better start enjoying some of these games, as it’s not like you can legally pass on an account to your kids when you kick the bucket.
