A well-received game on Steam is about to go from free-to-play to pay-to-play, unless of course you download the game before the end of the week.
Party Quiz is, as the name might imply, a quiz game you can play with your mates, from developers White Ink.
The title dropped back in May 2023 in early access and has remained free since, garnering a “Very Positive” review score on Steam with over 170 reviews (87% of which are positive).

So, why are the developers suddenly about to charge money for the title - more than 19 months after its initial release?
Well, as it turns out, keeping the game free-to-play is actually costing the developer money.
“Next week, Party Quiz will move to a pay-to-play model with the price around $7,” the developers revealed in a Steam post, “If you already own the game, it’s yours to keep for free.”
“Creating a game like Party Quiz isn’t cheap, and I want to share where your support goes: AI Host and question generation: These systems rely on external APIs, which come with recurring costs (and trust me, it's not cheap). Web page and matchmaking hosting: Keeping the servers running.”

On the plus side, White Ink has stated that charging for the title will allow them to add “more features, new content, and exciting updates” to Party Quiz as it leaves Early Access and moves into its “continued development” phase.
But if you like the look of the game and you don’t fancy dropping $7 on it, then just download it now instead.
As long as you download Party Quiz prior to it leaving early access next week, it’ll be yours to keep forever.
Assumedly all of that “new content” will be included free of charge too, so jump on the free download ASAP if you’re a quiz game aficionado.
