Another week, another free Steam game, but this time around it’s for a good cause.
Press Any Button is a story-driven indie game developed and published by Eugene Zubko, and is seemingly the first game the developer ever worked on.
The game launched back in January 2021 to an extremely positive reception and still holds a “Very Positive” rating with 2,600 reviews on Steam to this day.

Press Any Button’s positive reception mostly seems to be down to its “weird but sweet” main character A-Eye, an “artificial intelligence created to process data for important scientific research” who gets bored during his work and asks the player to critique the video game he’s developing.
The entire premise of the game seems to be a bit self-referential too, as A-Eye tells the character that, as he’s new to game development, he “can’t draw game assets” and he also “can’t compose music” - a tongue in cheek way of handwaving the fact that it’s the developer’s first time working on a game.
The developer also announced that the game would be made free for a 24 hour period for a very specific reason, in the Steam announcement detailing its discount.
“This date is World Suicide Prevention Day,” noted Eugene Zubko, “and since my game touches on this subject, I thought it would be fitting to make it available to as many people as possible on that day. Take care of yourselves and your loved ones.”

The game is only currently available for free until 6pm GMT, which means by the time this news post goes out you’ll have less than eight hours left to claim it for free.
Don’t worry too much if you’re spotting this too late to snag it, however, as the game itself only costs £1.69 at full price anyway.
