Steam free download is God of War meets Diablo

Action and mythology in equal measure

An upcoming Steam game is offering a free download that sees elements of God of War and Diablo collide to create a “thrilling” experience.

We adore God of War’s Kratos for a variety of reasons, yet there comes a time when we need to explore lands far removed from his story.

Despite Sony players getting very excited about the so-called God of War 6 confirmation via a job listing, we’re in for a long wait before a new game launches.

Jotunnslayer: Hordes of Hel isn't a game for the faint hearted

If you want that God of War fix now, but flavoured with a heavy lashing of Diablo-style content thrown in for good measure, you need to check out this free Steam download.

Jotunnslayer: Hordes of Hel is a roguelike game that is due to launch before the end of 2024.

It’s a “fast-paced” adrenaline ride that sends “endless waves of enemies” your way, meaning you best bring your A game if you’re going to make it out alive.

Only a few have dared to brave its challenges thus far, however, the reviews have been positive in spite of that.

Steam user TealMercury said, “I think this one is going to be special. First thing I noticed was the graphics, looks really good and plays smooth. Full controller support is great and works perfectly.”

“This bullet-hell game is an absolute standout in the genre, offering a thrilling experience with intense action and mesmerising graphics,” remarked Shon.DX.

While the full game isn’t out yet, you can explore the free download that is its demo free of charge.

It’s an ideal way to try before you buy, not that we anticipate a steep price tag upon launch.

From the list of requirements on the Jotunnslayer: Hordes of Hel page, this experience appears to be PC only (sorry Mac users).

As for Steam Deck compatibility, there’s no indication that it works on the Deck, though as it’s only the demo, and it’s free, it won’t harm you to give it a try.
