If you’ve ever wondered what Far Cry’s gameplay might look like thrown into a post apocalyptic landscape more akin to what you’d find in the Fallout franchise, then look no further than the upcoming Serum.
Developed by Game Island and set to be published by Toplitz Productions, Serum is an intriguing upcoming PC first-person survival adventure centred around an “unknown liquid” taking control of your life.
“Unravel the mystery of Serum and survive the fight against time amidst a ruined world of destruction and mutated creatures. Your life is at stake,” the synopsis teases.

“The toxic fog obscures the dangers in an apocalyptic world where every second counts. A relentless timer on your arm decides between life and death. Prove your courage, explore the mysterious environment for resources and brew serums for unique abilities. Every dose of serum can make the difference in the fight for survival against mutated enemies.”
Intrigued? Take a look at Serum in action below.
Created in Unreal Engine 5, players will have the opportunity to explore several biomes during their travels, each with its own unique characteristic and enemies.

Survival will rely on expanding your ability to create new tools, traps, and weapons, whilst you’ll need to gather serum from plants and animals in order to keep yourself sustained.
There’s room for experimentation with this serum though. The game encourages you to create new concoctions which could enhance your abilities, should you unearth the winning formula.
As for weapons, there are both melee and ranged options on offer, including spears, bows and clubs - and you can imbue your weapons with serums you’ve created to add status effects.
You also don’t have to embark on this journey alone given that Serum offers an online co-op mode.

The game is set to land sometime during Q2 which runs from April to May, but there is a free demo available to grab on Steam right now to give you some idea of what to expect. It’s certainly a game that’s piqued my interest.
