Do you ever want to play something like Pokémon but not actually play a Pokémon game?
It’s not a typical experience for me, I’ll grant you. However, there are occasions when I want something a little less predictable.
As if sensing I needed something new to play, Steam has dropped a free download that’ll scratch that Pokémon itch.

It’s called Beastieball.
Fancy a round of Beastieball, anyone?
Unlike in Pokémon, the team you compile isn’t meant to help you fight your way to the Elite Four but to be the very best at volleyball.

I can’t say it was something I’d given much thought to prior to discovering this hidden gem of an indie creation.
It’s easy to assume that Beastieball isn’t for you, however, you’re likely wrong in that assumption.
“Never in my life would I have thought I would be hyped for Pokémon volleyball, and yet I am,” commented @thelivingde4d539 after seeing the trailer.
You can do more than merely watch the trailer, though – you can also play the free PC demo.

Available for both Apple and Microsoft users, this is an easy way to see if you have what it takes to play volleyball with your beasties at a competitive level.
“It stands out from the creature collectors with a fun art style, fun gameplay, and fun story. There's a lot of smaller things that add some flair to it and make it refreshing,” posted one Steam user.
Further down in the reviews, another satisfied customer said, “So far this game has been a blast to play. The beastie designs are great, the world is interesting, the art style feels like something you would see on Cartoon Network (in a good way).”
Assuming you want to play ball with the adorable beasties, an introductory offer has the full game currently discounted to £18.89.

Before you spend any cash, be sure to try the free download first.
The ball’s in your court, folks.
