The Steam platform can be a wonderful place for indie darlings to make a mark on the video game industry. That being said, it can also be a bit of a dumpster fire. Thankfully, Dusk, the topic of today’s discussion, does not fall into the latter.
“Battle through an onslaught of mystical backwater cultists, possessed militants and even darker forces as you attempt to discover just what lurks beneath the Earth in this retro FPS inspired by the '90s legends,” reads the description on the Steam store.

Created by indie developer David Szymanski and published by New Blood Interactive, Dusk was released on Steam five years ago and has since been met with high critical acclaim from its community earning an “Overwhelmingly Positive” accolade on the PC platform.

“A very enjoyable FPS game. It’s very responsive and has great easter eggs, as well as excellent gunplay and movement. If you haven't ever played this game and like FPS's, you need to buy it,” said Steam user Austintacious. “Great gunplay and every weapon in the arsenal is enjoyable. It has good enemy variety and a good soundtrack by Andrew Hulshult,” exclaimed Fereros. “The atmosphere is spooky. Maps and levels are well made and are not very long and don't overstay their welcome. The boss fights are decent too.”
So how much better can Dusk get, I hear you ask? How about an HD remaster that is totally free? That’s unless you prefer the visuals as they were, if so, good for you. This free DLC does exactly what it says on the tin. It upgrades the retro polygon visuals into super crisp high definition. All you need to do is visit the dedicated Dusk HD Steam page and download the DLC at no cost.
If you’ve not yet played this indie darling, it is currently discounted on Steam with 66% off the RRP bringing it down from £14.99 to £5.09. However, you better act fast because the generous discount comes to an end on 18 December 2023.
