Steam is packed full with some incredible RPGs for PC users to enjoy, with many of these having free demos so that you can try before you buy.
We’ve rounded up eight fantastic RPGs that are all available to sample for free right now. What more could you ask for?
Let’s kick off with Sand Land. The upcoming action RPG is an adaptation of the comic book series of the same name by the late great Akira Toriyama. Toriyama’s recent passing sent shockwaves throughout the anime world with this incredible artist taken from us far too soon. Sand Land is one of the final projects Toriyama worked on, with the game set to launch on 25 April. You can dive into the free demo now.
Take a look at Sand Land in action below.
For those of you after a fantasy RPG, you may want to sample the demo for Tales of Arise. Developed by Bandai Namco Studios, this particular title teases: “Wield the Blazing Sword and join a mysterious, untouchable girl to fight your oppressors. Experience a tale of liberation, featuring characters with next-gen graphical expressiveness.” It’s a whopper of a game so if you do enjoy the demo, you’ll be able to sink hours into this one.

Returning to action RPGs, I’ll next highlight Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot - another must-play for fans of the late Toriyama and anime in general. Developed by CyberConnect2, this title allows you to not only relive Dragon Ball Z’s best battles but actively engage in them - training and fighting with Goku, Gohan, and Vegeta.
Another action RPG you may want to sample is Scarlet Nexus - another game from Bandai Namco. In this sci-fi adventure, you’ll be tasked with choosing between “Yuito and Kasane, elite psionics each armed with a talent in psychokinesis and their own reason to fight. Complete both of their stories to unlock all the mysteries of a Brain Punk future caught between technology and psychic abilities.”
If you’re looking for something that’s more story-driven, the demo for I Was A Teenage Exocologist is well worth checking out. Developed by Northway Games, this narrative RPG sees you assume the role of a teenager who spends years on an alien planet, with the gameplay involving card-based battles. It’s so deserving of its critical acclaim. A stunning game.
If that’s not your cup of tea, Octopath Traveler II is a gorgeous 2.5D pixel-art open-world RPG. This is another whopper, with the full release offering the potential to sink tens of hours in. The game sees eight travelers from the various regions of Solistia unite for a variety of reasons, embarking on an epic adventure dictated by you. Here at GAMINGbible, we rated the game a high nine out of 10.

If you prefer tactical RPGs, then perhaps Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew is the game for you. Developed by Mimimi Games, this title sees you explore the Lost Caribbean. You’ll join a ghost ship, commanding its crew in order to hunt down the treasure of the legendary Captain Mordechai before it's found by the army of the Inquisition.
Finally, I’ll highlight the demo of Realm of Ink. This is another RPG that’s not quite out yet but its demo certainly is. “Realm of Ink is an Ink-style action Roguelite game. While pursuing the Fox Demon, the swordswoman Red, unexpectedly finds that her life is dictated by the 'destiny' within the world of the book,” the description reads. “Only by breaking free can she unveil the truth of her existence and challenge the constraints of fate.”
There you have it. Eight RPGs you can sample now for free before you select which is the perfect one for you.
