The PlayStation and PC exclusive, Helldivers 2, has surpassed the Bethesda RPG Starfield in concurrent players on Steam, and it’s still rising.
Helldivers 2 is a chaotic multiplayer shooter where players are tasked with liberating the galaxy from monstrous insects and cold-hearted machines. It’s an exclusive for the PlayStation 5 and PC, and despite a fair share of issues at launch due to player numbers exceeding expectations, it’s gone down well in the eyes of fans and critics, many of whom are loving the game so far. In our review we gave it an 8/10, calling it an “absolute blast” and “a tough act to follow” for other multiplayer games to come.

The game’s popularity continues to grow, so much so that it’s quickly overtaken the all-time peak of concurrent players on Steam for Starfield. The Bethesda RPG was originally pitched as a new killer app for the Xbox, being one of the first exclusives following Xbox’s acquisition of Bethesda.

Unfortunately things didn’t quite go according to plan, as the game was packed full of problems at launch, and while it had its moments many players came away from the experience feeling bored and reluctant to play much more. Now there are even rumours the game will find a new home on PlayStation consoles following the news Xbox will be bringing more exclusive games to other platforms.
The all-time peak of concurrent players for Starfield is around 330,000, whereas Helldivers 2 has quickly surpassed it with over 333,000 players at the time of writing, and it was only released last week. This number is expected to rise even more, especially as new content and bug fixes are added to the game over time.
Helldivers 2 is yet another successful release for Sony, and it’s currently available on PlayStation 5 consoles and PC via Steam.
