While it’s no stand-in for Hogwarts Legacy 2, Mind Over Magic is a delightful new magic base-building sim that could offer a new dose of whimsical fun for fans of last year’s Wizarding World mega-hit.
Hogwarts Legacy was undeniably one of 2023’s biggest commercial successes. Here in the UK, it was the best-selling single-player game since the launch of Grand Theft Auto V. Google also revealed that Hogwarts Legacy was the year’s most searched-for game. While there’s definite room for improvement in Hogwarts Legacy, namely in its somewhat repetitive open world, the game laid solid foundations - and a sequel announcement feels likely. We don’t have one just yet though but here at GAMINGbible, we’re passionate about highlighting the latest indies that may capture a similar essence.
Take a look at Mind Over Magic in action below.
Mind Over Magic comes from developer Sparkypants and publisher Klei Publishing. The synopsis reads, “Design, build and manage your magic school to explore what lies below. Study lost arcana, grow exotic plants, brew potions, and raise undead servants - only you can prepare your fragile students to harness their Mind Over Magic.” You can easily see why it might appeal to Hogwarts Legacy fans, particularly if you enjoyed the Room of Requirement based management and collection activities.

Mind Over Magic has only been out for just under a month, but it’s already got a very respectable rating of 92% on Steam. “If Oxygen Not Included and Hogwarts [Legacy] had a baby, and added a dollop of dungeon crawler, it would look an awful lot like this game! While superficially similar to Spellcaster University, Mind over Magic adds depth and creativity that the former does not manage to achieve,” one reviewer wrote, while another similarly remarked, “It is great. Hogwarts School of Wizardry in an Oxygen Not Included structure. The art is glorious, the animations are sumptuous.”
Mind Over Magic remains in early access and currently costs £18.99, at the time of writing.
