Fallout is all anyone is talking about at the moment and while there are a bunch of Fallout games you could dig into, this Finnish adventure game is chanelling old school Fallout vibes.
Rauniot takes place in an alternate 1975 and while it doesn’t lean into humour, like Fallout, there’s no denying the games have a similar run-down, exhausted world appeal.
If you're looking for a new game to play after watching Fallout, we've got you covered.
Released recently, Rauniot is an isometric point-and-click adventure with some strong wasteland aesthetics. After a natural disaster decimates much of the planet, riots, conflicts, wars take over the globe.

This isn’t a typical thriller game and it uses puzzles and a strong narrative to carry the player through this unpleasant world.
It’s a rather unique place to spend time and it’s a lot harsher than the American soil of Fallout. This is a world where birth defects are rising because of contamination, where the seas are washing across the land, and pollution spreads from old nuclear waste.
There’s not a blue and yellow jumpsuit in sight, everyone you meet is hardened and grizzled.
What is lovely to see, is the traditional Finnish accents and styles running throughout, while we can say it is likely inspired by Fallout, Rauniot is doing everything on its own terms.

This is a bleak world and one that will feel overwhelming to some. It feels like it borders on horror due to the devastation brought on in this place.
I wouldn’t have known what the “Unique Finnish melancholic atmosphere” was before I saw this game, but now I have some kind of idea and I like it. This is one to add to your wishlist on Steam if you’re in the mood for devious puzzles and a strong narrative pull.
It may not be a happy place, but it’s likely to be a memorable one.
