This little Steam gem is saying all the right things - it’s post-apocalyptic, cyberpunk, with the vibes oozing from it bringing to mind several franchises.
There’s a little dollop of Fallout there in the grimy aesthetics, and the technology and style bring to mind the world of BioShock, too.
Hail to the Rainbow is coming out later this year.
It’s clear there are plenty of inspirations pulled from the gaming world around us, but there’s some originality in the style here.

Hail to the Rainbow, an odd title, follows “the story of a lonely young man named Ignat, who survives in the dangerous and gloomy world of post-apocalyptic cyberpunk”.
Each screenshot from the Steam page shows off a desolate, lonely existence that seems to perfectly capture the idea of exploring in isolation.
It doesn’t have the comedy or satire of Fallout, if anything, the game seems to lean into the more Eastern European apocalyptic fiction we see in Metro 2033 or STALKER.
There’s a free demo, if you fancy giving the game a spin, and while I wasn’t aware of the game before today, it has taken a place on my wishlist, purely for the visual impact the screenshots had on me.

The developer, who appears to be working on their own, says this of the game: “In the universe of the game, you will face the dangers of a new reality, immerse yourself in the secrets of the surrounding chaos.”
This accompanies GIF images of robots wandering the landscape, or being battled with melee weapons as they stalk you.
Russia is such a fascinating place to set these kinds of stories, as it provides a unique view away from the American-centric media we’re so used to.
Hopefully, the game lives up to the stunning shots and description found on Steam and the PlayStation store, as it could prove to be a hidden gem for 2025.
