The call of the sea is hard for many to ignore, especially those of us who served under Edward Kenway. If you’re pining for open waters, a Steam RPG might just be what you need to get you back on deck and exploring once more.
In light of a certain recent release, the interest and player count for Assassin’s Creed Black Flag has tripled. Although Ubisoft has disappointed its fandom with one game, it’s making up with it thanks to an older one; we doubt that’s what it was going for, but gamers are unpredictable.
We’re relieved we can always return to Kenway’s story, and that more AC remakes are on the way, but sometimes we need new seas to travel to satisfy that swashbuckling itch. That’s where Steam’s “very positive” free game comes in.

As much as we welcome new pirating games, nothing can beat Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag
Don’t let the recent spate of mixed feedback put you off – there’s a lot of fun to be had on the seas of Blackwake.
This PC “multiplayer naval FPS” is all about teamwork, meaning it’s advisable you play with friends otherwise you could struggle to navigate the high seas without falling prey to some particularly cutthroat enemies.

“One of the best first person ship combat games that have ever sailed into the gaming arena -– forgive the terrible pun – It truly is fun with the team play like no other,” reads one review.
Another says, “Honestly, one of the greatest pirate/sailing games ever made. Just the sheer depth of the smallest things is great. It's fun to play the captain, as well as the crew.” They continue, “The immediate satisfaction of firing a full volley; the scouting for ships in the night; the customisation. Great game overall.”
Others keep their praise shorter and to the point, remarking on how it’s better than Skull and Bones. As a result, we think it’s fair to say that this game is worthy of your attention if you’re struggling to find another game that gets the adrenaline pumping like Black Flag.
