Starfield will be unplayable for a lot of PC gamers

Starfield is just a few weeks away, but judging from Bethesda’s published system requirements, not everybody will get to play it.

Thousands of Bethesda fans are counting down the days till its first new IP in years, Starfield, launches exclusively for the Xbox Series X/S and PC.

Check out the gameplay trailer for Starfield below.

Despite a surprisingly short main story, the game looks enormous, with each explorable planet boasting a bigger map than Skyrim. Excited players are already preparing to lose thousands of hours to the game, and some are even designing their starships well in advance of the September release date.

While the majority couldn’t be more hyped for its release, some are concerned about the game’s performance. Aside from the possibility that its release is full of game breaking bugs and other technical issues, much like previous Bethesda games like Fallout 4, many players won’t be able to crank up the game’s performance on their current hardware.

Xbox Series X/S players are unfortunately limited to 30FPS, which is something they’re trying to overturn with a petition that’s going nowhere, but PC players have the opportunity to play the game at its full potential, provided they can run it.

Bethesda recently published Starfield’s system requirements on Steam, revealing that it’ll take a pretty monstrous PC to experience the game as the developers intended, which is bad news for anyone holding onto their lower-end hardware. Aside from needing a pretty powerful graphics card and a generous amount of RAM, Starfield may be the first PC game to require an SSD, not just hard-drive space.

It’s more than likely the majority of PC players will be able to run the game fairly well, but some will inevitably have to think about upgrading if they want to play the game at its best.

Luckily, Bethesda has partnered up with AMD, who are selling several CPU bundles along with a free copy of Starfield. These bundles have been helpfully categorised by AMD into three different performance types, and one has even seen a sharp price drop, granting a shiny new CPU and the game at a more affordable price.
