Ever wondered what Far Cry would be like if it had an Undead Nightmare mode? Well this upcoming Steam game might be your cup of tea if you have.
While zombies, monsters and demons have become cliche antagonists in games that doesn’t mean they can’t be fun anymore, as we’ve seen with games like Resident Evil 4 (2023), Doom Eternal and other fantastic spooky games.

Indie games can actually be a great source of survival-horror provided you know where to look, so allow us to point you in the right direction to an upcoming Steam game called Outbreak Island.

As the title of this article implies, we took a look at the gameplay for this one and couldn’t help but draw comparisons to Far Cry 3, but instead of pirates you’re fighting horrors beyond human comprehension.
The game’s official Steam description reads: “Survive on a remote Island, where a mysterious Outbreak awakens bloodthirsty monsters at night. Craft, build and defend your base in the brutal world of Outbreak Island, an open-world sandbox survival horror game.”
Sounds simple enough, but we’d imagine the difficulty significantly ramps up after a few nights leading to frantic daytime dashes to get your base in order before the next wave of evil comes knocking at your door.
It looks like a lot of fun, and it’d be even better if you could play it with friends which seemingly won’t be a feature on launch but could potentially be added one day.

Unfortunately at the time of writing there isn’t a release date for Outbreak Island, its Steam page simply says it’s “coming soon” but if you stick it on your wishlist you should be notified if that changes.
