It looks like one of the best horror games of the PlayStation 4 era is getting a modern remaster and that very game is Until Dawn.
Developed by the studio that brought us The Dark Pictures Anthology and The Quarry, Supermassive Games released Until Dawn as a PlayStation 4 exclusive in 2015. Fun fact, Until Dawn was originally intended to be a first-person horror game on the PlayStation 3 utilising motion controls for PlayStation Move. Thankfully, those plans were eventually scrapped.

Now in a third-person perspective, Until Dawn is a silly, but gory horror game straight out of the late-90s to early 2000s playbook, and that’s why we love it. Eight characters take a winter vacation in a hidden away cabin in Blackwood Mountain. However, it soon becomes apparent that this is no ordinary vacation getaway and something evil and perhaps even supernatural is lurking. The fate of the characters is in your hands and depending on the choices that you make, will not only determine the outcome of the story but also whether they will meet a grisly death.

In fairness to Until Dawn, when we reach August this year, this Supermassive Games horror classic will be nine years old and it still looks visually great today, albeit with a somewhat stuttery framerate. Which is why if reports of the remaster are true, it’s a reason for Until Dawn fans to get excited. The reports are courtesy of billbil-kun of Dealabs Magazine. Anyone familiar with this journalist will know that they are very reliable when it comes to reported leaks.
What’s more, reports of the Until Dawn remaster make sense especially as a live-action movie was recently announced. By releasing the movie and remaster around the same time, Sony Interactive Entertainment will capitise on profits. Interestingly, billbil-kun also recently leaked the rather odd subtitle for Death Stranding 2.
It’s been rumoured that the Until Dawn remaster will be revealed for PC and PlayStation 5 at a currently unannounced State of Play event in a couple of weeks. We are also expected to see more of Death Stranding 2.
Until Dawn is out now on PlayStation 4 and it is backward compatible for PlayStation 5. We’ll keep you posted when we hear more information on both titles featured in this article.
