PlayStation Plus surprise bonus free game slammed by fans

PlayStation Plus surprise bonus free game slammed by fans

This is a definite downgrade

PlayStation Plus’ extra tier has welcomed the addition of a bonus free game, although perhaps ‘welcomed’ isn’t the best word here as it’s actually been slammed by users.

In case you missed it, the latest batch of essential tier freebies has arrived.

This month, PlayStation Plus users can get their hands on WWE 2K24, Dead Space, and Doki Doki Literature Club Plus.

Those are yours to download and keep, so it’s well worth picking up all titles even if you’re doubting whether you’ll get around to playing them.

For today’s story though, I want to hop on over to the extra tier.

In mid October, the extra and premium tiers will gain their next batch of offerings but in the meantime, an updated version of Payday 2 has landed for extra tier users to … enjoy.

ICYMI: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is now one of the games available on the extra tier. You can experience the game’s wonderful new-gen update.

As reported by True Trophies, a version of Payday 2 has been added but it unexpectedly locks out some content.

You can now find the newly launched Payday 2: Crimewave Edition listed on the extra tier’s ‘new in’ games but what should be an upgrade is far more of the opposite.

The purpose of the Crimewave Edition is to add PS5 compatibility to Payday 2 while fixing minor issues and removing “expired licensed content”, but it’s that latter point that’s causing a ruckus.

In removing expired licensed content, players can no longer access the game’s Point Break and John Wick collaborations.

This will also affect the game’s soundtrack which has been cut down.

If you already own Payday 2, worry not. Your version won’t be affected or altered.

But if you choose to pick it up from now on, whether that's from PlayStation Plus or the PS Store, it’s this altered and cutdown version that you’ll receive.

Expiring licenses aren’t a new concept by any means, but it certainly is sad to see experiences downgraded because of them.
