It’s always nice to get a surprise bonus once in a while, especially when it’s an additional bonus at no extra cost.
This week, select PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers would have received an email from Sony inviting them to test the new 4K streaming feature for a selection of PlayStation 5 games from the PS Plus library.

“As a PlayStation Plus Premium member, in addition to helping test our PS5 Public Beta, you’ve been selected to try out the new PS5 cloud streaming feature that’s coming soon to PlayStation 5 and PS Plus Premium,” reads an email sent to subscribers.

Up until recently, Sony was testing out 4K streaming internally, but now it’s beginning to roll out for public testing. Obviously, if selected, you will need a quality and stable internet connection to make the most out of this feature. Unfortunately, it’s likely that only PS Plus members of the Premium tier will benefit from 4K streaming. After all, this is the only tier that allows streaming of any kind.
4K streaming is nothing new, after all, it was once a feature for the now-deceased Google Stadia. Some could say that at least in terms of console gaming, Xbox has been leading the way when it comes to cloud streaming which is implemented into its Xbox Game Pass Ultimate service.
However, at this time, Xbox cloud gaming only streams to a maximum of 1080p, meaning that Sony has beaten the green brand to the punch. No doubt, it will only be a matter of time until 4K streaming is available on Xbox.
In related news, the latest addition to the PlayStation Plus library absolutely explodes in popularity and subscribers are already excited as to what September 2023 brings with the potential of a huge month being on the way.
