It’s always exciting to approach a brand new year. Even if you’re not someone who chooses to set resolutions, there’s something both reflective and refreshing about leaving behind the old and stepping into the new.
To see out 2023, gamers have gathered to discuss the year’s most underrated game and I have to say, I’m surprised by the winner. Not because it’s not worthy. Simply because it’s so underrated that I didn’t think it would garner enough support. I’m delighted to see that many have been left highly impressed by Weird West - a game that is oh so easy to sink countless hours into. Reddit user Bexewa kicked off the discussion, writing, “What is the most underrated game you played this year? Regardless of release date,” with Weird West quickly gathering the most upvotes.
Take a look at Weird West in action below.
Blind_Insight commented, “Weird West. It was one of the free PlayStation Plus games this year. The gameplay is a top down-ish shooter but there's a lot in the game and mechanics like kicking an oil barrel at a group of enemies then throwing a molotov to light it. I haven't beat it yet but it's been keeping me entertained in between me playing The Finals.”

The_Disco_Fox agreed, commenting, “This game is a ton of fun. Plenty of ways to complete quests and the game encourages you to ‘break it’. It feels like a D&D type of game. I believe the designers of Dishonored also had a hand in making it and it shows. I'm glad you enjoy it too,” while vote_pedro added, “Was about to comment the same. So so so so good.”
Weird West may sound familiar as PlayStation Plus users had the option to download the game back in October. It was included as an essential tier freebie alongside The Callisto Protocol and Farming Simulator 22. As an essential game, it was only available that month. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Make sure you’re downloading those essential tier games. They’re yours to keep and you never know what you might fancy playing further down the line.
